The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has commenced sensitization of residents of Ekiti state ahead of the continues voter registration exercise which will start next week Monday.
The awareness programme took staff of the Commission to major streets and markets in Ado-Ekiti metropolis to sensitize the people on the importance of the voter registration exercise.
Speaking in some of the places visited, the Head of Voters Education and Publicity, Ekiti state INEC Office, Alhaji Taiwo Gbadegesin noted that the exercise would start with online registration, during which a pin would be generated, saying the pin would be used during the physical registration scheduled to start on July 19.
Alhaji Gbadegesin explained that the Commission decided to complete the exercise physically to prevent underage registration.
“If those who have not attained voting age registed online, when they get to our office for physical registration, we will know and the registration will terminate at that point”.
He pointed out that the forthcoming registration was meant for those who just turned eighteen years, those who have issues with their voter cards and those who want to transfer their cards to another centre.
On her part, the Public Affairs of INEC, Ekiti state, Mrs. Rolake Odebunmi said those who do not have access to internet should visit the Commission’s Offices in the council areas for the online registration, while those who have android phones could access the portal at cvr.inec.org.ng or cvr.inecnigeria.org.
Also speaking, the INEC Gender Desk Officer in the state, Mrs. Ganiyat Famobio noted that sensitization for the continuous voters registration would be replicated in all the sixteen local governments for the people to be adequately informed.
A training for the local government Electoral and Registration Officers was earlier held to ensure the success of voter registration exercise in Ekiti state.
