Harmattan: Lawmaker cautions against reckless handling of fire.

A member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti south federal constituency 2, Mr Femi Bamisile has appealed to the people of the state not to toy with anything capable of igniting fire during this harmattan season.

Mr Bamisile made the appeal in an interview with Radio Nigeria reporter while reacting to the recent fire which destroyed cocoa plantation at Oke Oya in Omuo Ekiti.

The lawmaker noted that things especially bushes were too dry, hence the need to handle fire with care.

He urged hunters, farmers and smokers of cigarette to be careful with fire and sympathised with the affected farmers whose means of livelihood had been destroyed by fire.

Two of the affected farmers, Mr Simon Omodara and Komolafe Tunmise said the fire destroyed their. Yam, cocoyam, colanut, banana and cocoa plantations which were ripe for harvest, calling for government urgent assistance.

The farmers noted that they lost farm produce worth millions of naira to the inferno.
