It’s Black Sunday in Owo, as gunmen attack church, many worshippers killed
Gunmen on Sunday morning attacked Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, the headquarters of the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State killing many worshippers.
Unconfirmed number of bodies had been evacuated from the church, with many who sustained injuries rushed to the Federal Medical Center, FMC, in Owo.
Owo is the hometown of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the church when service was going on and opened fire on the congregation.
One of the eyewitness who pleaded anonymity stated that the worshippers were caught off guard when the attackers arrived with guns and other dangerous weapons.
The witness added that the number of casualties were many because some attendees who were rushed to the hospital gave up the ghost.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, a nurse at Federal Medical Centre, Owo disclosed that there are insufficient medical professionals on duty to attend to the injured victims in the hospital’s emergency unit which made some of the victims of the casualties to be transferred to private hospitals.
