Gender Based Violence: Ekiti West Council Boss, Hon Okere Constitutes Committee …Promises To Sanction Offenders.

In line with efforts of Ekiti State government to stop Gender Based Violence in the state, the Chairman of Ekiti West local government, Honourable Olusesan Okere has inaugurated a committee to ensure that the trend become a thing of the past in the council area.

The committee which comprises Police Officers, Civil Defence, Female Lawyers, Traditional Chiefs, Members of Drivers’ unions, market women, Religious leaders is headed by wife of the Chairman of the local government, Mrs Funmilayo Okere.

Speaking during the inauguration, Honourable Olusesan Okere expressed worry over the increasing cases of Gender Based Violence in the society, hence the need to put up the committee.

Honourable Okere applauded the efforts of the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for doing everything possible to curb Gender Based Violence in the state.

He charged members of the committee to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring that perpetrators of Gender Based violence in the council area were sanctioned accordingly.

In a remark, The Chairperson of the committee, Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Okere, who is the wife of the Chairman, Ekiti West Local Government urged members of the committee to put in their best in eradicating Gender based Violence in the State.

Also, representative of FIDA at the programme, Mrs Ifedayo Osadola warned perpetrators of Gender Violence in the state to desist from it, saying there were laws to sanction offenders.

She therefore promised that female lawyers would work with members of the committee to achieve success in the task.

Other members of the committee during separate interviews pledged allegiance to be dedicated in making the state a safe abode for all and sundry.
