Ekiti state Government has presented cheques worth one hundred million naira as gratuities to forty one retired Local Government workers and Primary School teachers in the state.
At the ceremony in Ado Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi said the payment of gratuities was in fulfilment of his promises to ensure that pensioners enjoy a worthy life after meritorious service to the state.
The governor through the Secretary to the state government , Mr. Biodun Oyebanji noted that government would prioritise the welfare of pensioners with an assurance to sustain the techniques adopted in defraying outstanding gratuities.
Dr. Feyemi who urged the beneficiaries to expend the money on profitable ventures, cautioned aged people to always abide with the COVID-19 protocol as a result of its rising cases.
The governor also laid the foundation of the new secretariat complex of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners situated along Ilawe road where he promised to support the Union towards the completion of the project.
Earlier, the state chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Elder Ayo Kumapayi commended the state government for its effort at ensuring better welfare of pensioners.
