Federal Government Pledges Return Of 20m Children to School.

The Federal Government says it plans to get over 20 Million out-of-school children back to school within the next 4 years.Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman stated this at the 2024 budget defence before the joint committee of the National Assembly on Education in Abuja.Professor Mamman noted that one of the major problems facing the country was the issue of out-of-school children.Speaking further, the Minister told the National Assembly members that the country needed graduates who have skills and competence to be able to contribute to National Development.According to the Minister, government would work to ensure that as many as possible of the out-of-school children were returned to school.He said those who could not return to school would be empowered through short term skills training that would give them opportunity to connect with the society to have a meaningful livelihood.Professor Mamman added that the Ministry had engaged with stakeholders to review the country’s education curriculum to make skills acquisition compulsory for students.
