Federal Government Approves Minimum Wage for Pensioners

Pensioners who retired from Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the Defined Benefit Scheme are to begin receiving enhanced pensions from May 2021.

The Defined Benefit Scheme was the pension arrangement before the commencement of the Contributory Scheme which was wholly funded by the Treasury.

They will also receive the arrears due from April 2019 arising from the increased minimum wage which took effect two years ago.

The Executive Secretary, Pension Transitional Arrangement Department, PTAD, Dr. Chioma Ejikeme made this known at a News briefing in Abuja.

She said the implementation of the consequential adjustment in pensions demonstrated its resolve to better the life of those who had served the country.

Dr. Ejikeme however cautioned the pensioners not to fall victim to pension scammers as no PTAD staff would request gratification or their bank details for them to get the payment.

She appealed to the pension unions to continue to partner the Directorate to serve them better.
