Fayemi Inaugurates Committee to Tackle Quackqery in Engineering.

In Ekiti State, no body or company will be allowed to supervise any project without duly
registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi affirmed this in Ado Ekiti at the inaguration of the State Technical Committee and Expatriate Monitoring Committee to tackle quackqery in the Engineering profession.

Dr Fayemi who maintained that possession of COREN practicing license would ba a condition for pre-qualification by all companies to carryout engineering projects in Ekiti, said, henceforth, Government would not tolerate any project short of the best standard.

Represented by the Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, Governor Fayemi noted that no nation could develop without engineering, saying that it was the bedrock for infrastructural development and such would not be handled with levity hands.

He observed that Ekiti Government had always given priority to the development of infrastructure across the towns and villages in the state.

While expressing hope that the Committee members were selected based on good track records, Governor Fayemi challenged the committee to be proactive and ensure that all infrastructure meet the global best standard by reporting all defaulters and those contravened the COREN Act to the Registrar.

The Ekiti State Governor donated a Toyota bus and percice of land to the COREN to ensure smooth operation and attract the body to have a office in Ekiti.

Earlier, the COREN National President, Mr Rabiu Ali appreciated the Ekiti State Government for given them the enabling environment and the support.

Mr Ali said that the aim of setting up the Committee was to ensure standard and spiddy modernization across the states in Nigeria.

He said based on the new guidelines Coren had inaugurated the Committee in twelve states
to ensure right things were being done in the field of Engineering across Nigeria.

Me Ali explained that the committee members were selected based on their past records and they should ensure sanctity in the line of their assignment and should lead as the pace setter.

Also, the CONREN Register Professor Joseph Odigure said that the body was not on a fault finding mission but to build on the existing progress in the field of Engineering.

The Ekiti State Chairman Society of Engineers, Mr Kayode Afuye advised the members of the committee to always follow the new act of COREN and ensure that standard were being kept in the in line of their duty.

The seventeen Committee members cut across all sectors of the economy including the private sector
