There is the need for Accountants to ensure that sustainable financial system is adopted and practiced in corporate organizations in the country.
The Head of Accountancy Department, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Dr. Oluwasola Oluwagbuyi made the postulation at a public lecture Organized by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN, Ekiti State branch held in Ado Ekiti.
The theme of the lecture is “Adoption of sustainability reporting in corporate organizations as a complimentary variable to economic stability in Nigeria”.
Delivering the lecture, Dr. Oluwasola Oluwagbuyi explained that the financial system being practiced by corporate organizations and some government agencies was not favourable to the public, hence Accountants should rise to the challenge.
The Lecturer advocated a legislation that would make sustainable financial reporting compulsory for corporate organizations in the country to ensure that they impact on their host communities.
In his welcome address, the ANAN Chairman in Ekiti state and the Southwest, Pastor Sola Alonge said the lecture was put in place to update the knowledge of the Accountants in line with global best practices.
Pastor Alonge commended Ekiti state government for encouraging professionalism in its financial activities, while calling on Professional bodies to compliment government’s efforts in this regard.
Chairman at the forum, Mr. Vincent Omodara noted that the lecture would help ANAN members in the state to play active roles in economic sustainability in Nigeria.
The lecture was attended by Accountants and Auditors of various institutions, government agencies and some Permanent Secretaries.
