Nigerians have been enjoined to desist from activities that are inimical to forest sustainability such as burning of forest, animal grazing and deforestation.

Head, department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, Federal University Oye-Ekiti. Dr. Deji Adejumo, gave the advice in an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria to commemorate this year International Day of Forests in Ado-Ekiti.

Dr. Adejumo said the forests were so important to survival of humanity such as furniture making, construction jobs, source of energy and papers, hence the need to guide them judiciously.

Speaking on this year’s theme of International Day of Forests “Forests and health.”, the forest policy and economics expert emphasized that forest helped to prevent global warming and climate change.

He stressed that the forests help to reduce negative impact of fossil fuel, used to power generators for homes and industries, that cause global warming and climate change, as a result of carbon released to the atmosphere.
