EKSG Urges Directors to Pursue Self-Development for Improved Service Delivery

The Ekiti State Government has called on Directors and Deputy Directors in the state public service to prioritize continuous self-development as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, competence and efficient service delivery.

The State Commissioner for Capacity Development and Training, Professor Patrick Tedela, made the call at the opening of a two-day training programme organised for selected Directors and Deputy Directors in the Ekiti State Public Service.

The training, titled “Transformational Leadership for Public Sector Efficiency: Charting Pathway for a Resilient Public Service,” aims to strengthen leadership capacity and improve institutional performance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Professor Tedela said the programme was organised in recognition of the strategic roles Directors and Deputy Directors play as members of the top management cadre of the service.

He said the demands of modern governance require innovative thinking, strategic leadership and a strong commitment to personal growth.

The Commissioner stressed that transformational leadership was key to deepening reforms and building a resilient public service capable of responding to emerging challenges.

He urged participants to take advantage of the training to upgrade their skills and adopt global best practices.

The State Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, also called on participants to embrace character refinement and attitudinal change, noting that effective leadership is anchored on integrity and exemplary conduct.

She highlighted self-leadership skills to include self-awareness, goal setting, self-motivation, self-discipline, accountability, resilience and continuous learning.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Capacity Development and Training, Mr Bamidele Arowosola, urged participants to remain attentive and actively engaged throughout the programme to ensure tangible improvements in their respective offices.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Permanent Secretaries of the Civil Service Commission, Mrs Bukola Ogunlade and the Office of Establishment and Service Matters, Mrs Janet Ajibola, who both emphasised the importance of sustained capacity building in driving public sector efficiency.

Resource persons at the event, including the Director-General, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, Dr John Ekundayo and retired Permanent Secretary, Dr Jide Akinleye, expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would translate into improved governance and enhanced service delivery in the state.

Some participants, including Mr Adeniyi Adekunle of the Ministry of Information and Mrs Yewande Adesua of Ekiti AGILE, commended the state government for the initiative, saying the training had broadened their knowledge and strengthened their leadership capacity.
