EKSG Pledges Support as FRCN Staff Becomes NUJ Chairman

Ekiti State government has pledged its support for the new Executive Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun stated this at the inauguration of the new Executive Committee at the NUJ Press Center, Oke Bareke, Old Governor’s office, Ado Ekiti.

Chief Olatunbosun assured the new leadership of Ekiti NUJ that government would extend hand of fellowship to it like it did to the former leadership.

The Ekiti Information Commissioner commended the former NUJ Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela for his successful two-term tenure in office.

Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode charged the new Executive Committee to build on the unity and understanding which made all of them to be elected unopposed while TUC Chairman in Ekiti State, Comrade Sola Adigun commended the NUJ for the peaceful transition.

In his address, National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chief Chris Iziguso, represented by the Vice President, B Zone, Mrs Ronke Samo expressed happiness that peace now reign supreme in Ekiti NUJ, unlike some years ago.

Mrs Samo charged the new Executive Committee to get ready to work as there are lots of issues to be attended to.

She thanked the Electoral Committee of the NUJ, led by Alhaji Yaqub Popoola and the Scribe, Pastor Amos Ogunrinde for a job well done.

Speaking earlier, the immediate past Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela reeled out the numerous achievements recorded by the Executive Committee which he led and appealed to all NUJ members to support and co-operate with the new Exco.

The new Executive Committee are, a staff of FRCN Progress FM, Ado Ekiti, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi who emerged as Chairman; Olayinka Ilori–V-Chairman; Oluwaseun Ogunsakin–Secretary; Victor Akinkuolie-Asst Secretary; Sikiru Abidemi–Treasurer; Lawrence Ibitoye-Financial Secretary and Olubunmi Ibiteye– Auditor.

In his acceptance speech after taking the oath of office, the new Chairman, NUJ Ekiti State, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi thanked all those who mentored him and appreciated the support and confidence that the former chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela had in him.

He gave an assurance that he and the new team will work assiduously to surpass the record set by the immediate past Executive Committee.

As part of his first act in office, Comrade Babatuyi set up three committees and appointed some personal staff.

The committee are Advisory Committee, Elders Council and Task Force on Quackery.

Those appointed are Ex-Officio, Mrs Bukola Aduwo; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Comrade Olaniyi Alade; Special Adviser on Training, Comrade Yomi Ayeleso and Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Razak.

Some of the other dignitaries on the occasion were a former Chairman of Ekiti NUJ, Akogun Tai Oguntayo; NAWOJ Ekiti Chairperson, Mrs Fatima Bello; RATTAWU Chairman in Ekiti, Comrade Taiwo Falae; Manager News, FRCN Progress FM, Mr Bunmi Oluwalana, among others.
