Ekiti State Government has ordered immediate relocation of the Iworoko Ekiti Central Market to prevent incessant accident and further loss of lives and property.
The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, gave the directive in Ado Ekiti during an interaction with the concerned stakeholders and landowners from the community.
Chief Afuye also appealed to Arinjale family in Odo Iworoko who claimed that the proposed land, where the market is to be relocated belongs to them, to allow government to make use of the land.
While addressing the stakeholders which include members of the committee set up by the state Government on Iworoko Central Market Relocation, Chief Afuye said that Governor Oyebanji was not happy with the number of deaths already recorded in the area.
The Deputy Governor urged the community to embrace unity and peace, saying there is no going back on the relocation of that market from the present spot.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, had a couple of months ago directed the composition of a committee, headed by the Deputy Governor to resolve issues on the relocation of the market within the town.
Members of the Committee include the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata, SAN; Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Mr Ojo Atibioke ; Local Government Affairs, Chief Folorunso Oyebode; Special Adviser on Lands, Professor James Olaleye and the Chairman of the Ifedara Local Council Development Area, Mr Sunday Ogundola.
