Ekiti state government is to prevent the collapse of small scale businesses and micro enterprises as part of plan to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the economy and vulnerables in the state.
Governor Fayemi said this in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of Steering Committee of the State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) Programme
The State CARES Programme a jointly developed, World Bank Supported Programme is aimed at mitigating the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the socio-economic well-being of the people in supporting budgeted government interventions at the state level.
Governor Fayemi stressed that Govt was poised to assist artisans and small scale businesses to thrive inspite of economic downturn and negative effect of covid 19 pandemic..
Governor Fayemi said the project would target the vulnerable farmers, artisans, micro and small enterprises (MSEs) affected by the economic crisis occasioned by the pandemic.
The Governor said the Steering Committee would provide policy direction and facilitate the implementation of the Programme to make it to reach the required people.
Dr Fayemi told members of the Committee that addressing issues of accountability and sustainability in particular, would require their deep commitment, experience, transparency, prudence, as well as technical skills while implementing the CARES Programme.
Members of the steering committee headed by the state commissioner for budget and economic development Mr Femi Ajayi pledged to discharge their responsibilities in achieving the objectives of the Programme for benefits of citizens.
