Ekiti SSG Wants NAWOJ to Promote Women in Leadership Positions

By Funmi Falae

Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro, has called on women journalists to use their various platforms to promote women in leadership positions in order to encourage more women to participate and do well in any leadership positions they find themselves.

Dr. Adubiaro stated this while playing host to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Ekiti State Chapter in her office.

She noted that the impact of women in nation-building cannot be over-emphasized but little publicity is given to women who are doing their best to make positive impact in their various areas of interest.

She also highlighted the need for promoting women in various leadership positions, noting the significant strides made for women by the present administration, which she described as gender-sensitive.

“Women have had it so good under this present administration. Our governor is gender-sensitive,” she affirmed, underscoring the administration’s commitment to gender equality and urging other states to follow suit.

In addition to promoting women’s representation, Dr. Adubiaro also emphasized the importance of educating young girls in schools and encouraged NAWOJ members to extend their efforts to schools as well.

In her remarks, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ Ekiti State, Mrs Adewumi Ademiju appreciated the state government for its support to the association in the past and appealed for a closer collaboration between NAWOJ and the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

“We are here to collaborate with you, to project your activities, and to familiarize ourselves with you,” Mrs Ademiju affirmed, highlighting the association’s commitment to working hand in hand with the government to advance women’s cause and journalistic endeavours in the state and the country at large.

Also on the delegation of NAWOJ to the SSG office were the immediate past Chairperson, Mrs Fatima Bello; Secretary, Mrs Funmi Falae; Treasurer, Mrs Funke Oyerinde;
Financial Secretary, Mrs Adefunke Adeigba; Mrs Banke Fajuyi, Mrs Yemisi Omotola, among others.
