In a bid to improve economy at the grassroots, neighbourhood markets worth one point two, two billion naira have been inaugurated across council areas in Ekiti State.
At the inauguration in the local governments, wife of the governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi said the project was in line with the presents administration’s vision at facilitating commerce at the rural areas.
The wife of the governor maintained that the project was conceived to give both small and medium scale business owners the opportunity to improve their living standard
She appealed to market women to shun street trading and display of goods by road sides in order to fore stall accidents that often occur as a result of recklessness on the part of motorists.
In a remark, the commissioner for local government Affair, professor Adio folayan charged council chairmen to allocate the market stores without favoritism and make use of the facility as a veritable tool for internally generated revenue.
All council chairmen in local governments of the state appreciated the gesture and promised to ensure adequate maintenance of the markets.
The construction of the Neighbourhood markets project was flagged off in 2013 but witnessed delay due to the expiration of the present administration’s first term in office.
