Ekiti Governorship poll: INEC moves to check vote buying

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has conducted mock on the use of Bimodal Voter’s Accreditation System, BVAS ahead of the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti state.

Monitoring the exercise in Ado, Ikere and Igede-Ekiti, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the purpose of the mock accreditation was to test the efficiency of the machines to be used for the conduct of the poll.

He expressed happiness over the functionality of the machines, saying the development had shown that it would work perfectly on the election day.

Professor Yakubu said he was also in the state to check the facilities of the commission, in readiness for the poll and to ascertain the progress made on collection of voters cards, adding that seventy four percent of the PVCs had been collected.

The INEC Chairman explained that the commission had decided to arrange ballot boxes which would be closed to voting cubicles and not allowing the use of cameras or recording devices at the polling units in order to check vote buying.
