Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has called for speedy dispensation of justice on gender based violence to reduce the spate of the decadence.
She made this known during an advocacy visit to school of nursing and midwifery in Ado Ekiti.
According to Erelu Fayemi, when there is delay or no sanctions for violent sexual assaults, the culture of impunity on the heinous crime would continue to thrive and give rise to the manace in an unprecedented proportion.
The governor’s wife expressed regret that women who were victims of violent sexual crimes were most time afraid to report for fear of stigmatization, blame and rejection.
She therefore called for concerted effort to nip the manace in the bud due to the fact that it destroys live, errode self esteem, bring educational opportunities to halt, increases sexual transmitted diseases among others.
Earlier the chief medical Director of Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, professor Kayode Olabanji urged the students of the school of nursing and midwifery to see themselves as ambassadors of advocacy against gender based violence and propagate the dangers inherent in it, to curb the menace.
In a remark, the principal of the school, Mrs Bisi Awe gave assurance that the institution would put in place machineries towards zero tolerance for gender based violence.
She promised immediate inauguration of a gender based violence club among the students so as to report suspicious cases of the dastardly act to appropriate quarters.
The school principal however requested for more accommodation for the students as the number of students have increased due to accreditation of all courses in the school.
