Ekiti Government Establishes Citizens Complaints Center

The Ekiti State Government has established a citizens complaint center at Oja Oba market in Ado Ekiti to ensure prompt response of govt to illegalities perpetrated by individuals and grievances of citizens

Governor kayode Fayemi announced this in Ado Ekiti while receiving the final report of Ekiti State Judicial Panel of inquiry into allegations of human rights violations against police officers including officers of the special anti-robbery squad and other persons.

Governor Fayemi noted that the idea of the center was basically to answer the requests of the people on the provision of more easily accessible place for them to reports thier complaints for urgent action.

He further stressed that the center to be supervised by the ministry of justice would operate in a manner devoid of formalities associated with government agencies with a provision of different communication channels.

The Governor who lauded members of judicial panel of inquiry for their show of professionalism also announced the composition of a new committee to oversee the implementation of the report.

He said the implementation committee which would be headed by the Attorney General and commissioner for justice, Olawale Fapohunda has four weeks to submit its report for proper execution.

He gave an assurance that Government remain committed to prompt, efficient and equal justice administration without sentiments.

Presenting the report,chairman of the panel Retired Justice Cornelius Akintayo said the inquiry received 85 petitions out of which only 50 found with various allegations ranging from loss of lives, assault and physical injuries were attended to while others were dismissed due to petitioners failure to susbtantiate thier claims.

Justice Akintayo noted that the first tranche of compensation to 24 petitioners have been paid and urged govt to ensure the payment of the remaining victims as recommended by the panel.
