Ekiti Election: Voters worry over malfunctioning of BVAS machines… Nobody will be disenfranchised say INEC

Some voters in one of the polling units in Ikosu Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State have raised alarm over the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS machine in the unit.

They alleged that twelve electorate had so far voted since the commencement of voting and Accreditation at half past eight in the morning.

The concerned voters pointed out that many people would be disenfranchised if the situation was not addressed.

Also, at unit seven in Ola Oluwa Ado Ekiti, voter’s complaint that only one BVAS machine was deployed for over two thousand Electorate on the queue, thereby slowing down both the accreditation and voting.

However, when contacted, INEC slpokesperson in Ekiti State, Mr Femi Akinbiyi said back up BIVAS machines and Registration Area Centre Tachnologists had been deployed to polling units with different complaints on malfunctioning of the machines.

Mr Akinbiyi maintained that any voter still on the queue by half past two in the afternoon would still be allowed to vote, hence nobody would be disenfranchised.

The INEC spokesperson made it clear that situation room had been established at the commission state Office in Ado Ekiti to take care of challenges relating to the exercise in each council.
