The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye has appealed to the aggrieved Chiefs in Iyin-Ekiti to allow peace to reign supreme and desist from actions that can undermine the authority of Oluyin in council.
Chief Afuye made the plea in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with Oluyin in council led by HRM Oba Adeola Ajakaye and some aggrieved Chiefs led by Petu Oketoro, Iyin Ekiti, High Chief Adebayo Akerele
Chief Afuye who explained that it was against the law for any Chief to ascribe the authority of a monarch to himself, urged the Petu Oketoro Iyin-Ekiti to remove the inscription of Palace Oketoro in front of his house.
She said in Yoruba land, it was denigration for any Chief to inscribe “Aafin” in front of his house while a recognized king has been installed with staff of office by government.
” I am a princess, I cannot support any Chief to be rude to any Oba in Ekiti, infact my boss, Governor Biodun Oyebanji would never support such. Please our government is for peace, progress and development of the state. Let all the Chiefs of Iyin-Ekiti support Oba Adeola Ajakaye” said the Deputy Governor.
Chief Afuye who observed that Chiefs and monarch of the town should be more united to bring their sons and daughters together for the prosperity of Ekiti, advised Oba Ajakaye to extend hands of fellowship to the aggrieved Chiefs.
The Deputy Governor directed all residents of Iyin-Ekiti to abide by government’s directive on peace and tranquility in the town.
While appreciating the Ekiti State Government for wading into the crisis in Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaye and Petu Oketoro Iyin-Ekiti, Chief Adebayo Akerele promised to abide by the government decision and expressed optimism that the issue had been solved permanently.
