Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has called on the incoming administration to prioritize women programmes to reduce the tendency of marginalising them.
The Governor’s wife made the call in Ado Ekiti while playing a host to Ekiti State Governor Elect, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and his entourage.
She said women needed to be placed on pedestal where they would be useful and function effectively for the incoming administration.
The Governor’s wife said women in the society should have a sense of belonging in the administration, have influence, adequate representation and be empowered to make life meaningful for themselves and their dependants.
“I want to sincerely urge our governor elect to give full support to the office of the first lady because most women needed government support whether to start a business or pay children’s school fees” Erelu Fayemi said.
She therefore thanked women group for being hardworking most especially on the success recorded during the last election and
encouraged them not to relent in their support at promoting the incoming administration.
The Director General of the state All Progressives Congress women campaign council, Mrs Oluremi Ajayi said the voting power of women had contributed in no small measure to the success of the election.
She promised onbehalf of women campaign group that there would be continious support for the governor elect so that the success recorded so far by the outgoing administration would not diminish.
In a remark APC chairman in the state, Mr Paul Omotoso appreciated the mobilisation method put in place by the women group during the campaign.
“We are here to register our appreciation owing to the effort of Ekiti State Governor’s wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi during the last Governorship election in the state. For any state that will progress, there is need for continuity of the party, Lagos is where it is, because of continuity in government.
He expressed the hope that the Governor Elect, Mr Biodun Oyebanji would consolidate on the good legacy of the state to propell more success in all ramifications.
Mr Omotoso said the people of the state would soon realized that they have voted correctly when development of the state would be given accelerated attention.
Responding, the State Governor Elect, Mr Biodun Oyebanji said that the resultant effect of the women campaign council saying was visible in the outcome of the last Governorship election, stressing that women issues would be put the in front burner in the coming administration.
He pleaded with the women group not to engage in politics of bitterness, name calling and demeaning fellow political ally within the party so as not to cause division.
Mr Oyebanji therefore promised to build on the legacy of the outgoing government while major issues affecting the state would be of Paramount importance to the incoming administration.
The forum was attended by big wigs of the All progressives Congress including, Mr Karounwi Oladapo, Former State Chairman of All progressives Congress, High Chief Jide Awe among others.
