The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has commenced interrogating the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu today, Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Dr Edu arrived the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at about 11am, alongside her lawyers and aides.
She showed up in EFCC office after being invited by the Anti-graft agency, following her suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
She is the first Minister to be suspended in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The Suspended Minister is now being questioned over alleged #585m fraud in her ministry.
The fund, meant for payment of grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa-Ibom, Lagos, Cross-River and Ogun States, was allegedly diverted to private account.
Meanwhile, the former Minister in the same Ministry, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, who was accused of laundering over #37b, is now facing EFCC interrogators.
The questioning of the former Minister began on Monday, Jan 8th, 2024, but was asked to go home same day, to return the following day, Tuesday, January 9th.
The EFCC did not detain the former Minister due to its new policy.
