Education: Ekiti Governor’s wife Advises Teachers on Professional Conduct

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has advised teachers to adhere to professional codes of conduct and ethical guidelines to avoid abuse of students’ rights.

This will also go a long way to promote conducive learning environment between teachers and students.

Dr Oyebanji gave the advice in Ado-Ekiti during a conference organised by the Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University.

The First Lady noted that it was important for academic community to understand the legal boundaries within their operations in order to avoid unintentional violations of human rights and also ensure the protection of the rights and well-being of all stakeholders involved.

“It is imperative for teachers to have a clear understanding of these legal responsibilities to ensure they provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

“Teachers should be aware of their legal obligations when it comes to reporting suspected child abuse or neglect. Failing to fulfill this duty can have severe consequences, both professionally and legally.”

She therefore called on educational institutions and policymakers to provide comprehensive training and professional development by equipping educators with necessary legal knowledge and empower them to make decisions that would improve teaching profession.

Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Babatola Ayodele eulogized the organizers of the programme, saying that it will acquint educators with frame work for moderating the school activities, and ensure guidelines for code of conduct of the teachers and students.

According to the vice Chancellor, the school is determined to champion research activities, support everything that will enhance the expertise of lectures.

He assured that the school would key into human capital goal of the Biodun Oyebanji led administration by ensuring that the institution produce highly competitive graduates to drive the socio economy goal of the government.
