The Edo State House of Assembly is set to serve the Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, impeachment notice through substitution method.
This followed the alleged refusal of the Deputy Governor to receive the notice served on him last week by the Assembly.
At plenary on Monday the 11th March, 2024, Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku told the House that the Deputy Governor had rejected the notice.
Consequently, the House directed its Clerk, Yahaya Omogbai to serve the Deputy Governor the notice through substitution method, which is to publislh the notice in at least three National Daily Newspapers.
It is believed that the impeachment notice is the latest in the series of events which have been taking place since a rift between the Deputy Governor and his Principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki became hit public domain last year.
Their misunderstanding stemmed from the alleged refusal of the Governor to back his Deputy for the Governorship position in this year’s Edo State Governorship Election.
Since last year, there have been many happenings between the two leaders, with the Deputy Governor bearing the brunt mostly.
So far, his power and influence have been seriously eroded, his office relocated outside Government House premises, his office denied running grants and series of other unpleasant developments.
