Police officers and men have been called upon to continue to respect human rights while carrying out their lawful duties.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South West, Mr Biodun Alabi made the call in Ado Ekiti while addressing senior officers and men of the command, in continuation of his tour of the region.

Mr Alabi explained that violation of human rights by some policemen was one of the reasons they lost respect from members of the public.

The DIG in charge of Southwest States urged officers of Ekiti State police command to double their efforts in ensuring that residents of the Fountain of Knowledge sleep with their two eyes closed.

He therefore urged members of the public to work with the police by giving them useful information that would lead to arrest of criminal elements in the state.

Also, the Commander of Agro Marshall in Ekiti, Mr. Olamide Oni and the state NLC chairman, Mr Kolapo Olatunde said the state needed more officers, observing that some police stations especially those in the rural communities in Ekiti were short of officers.

The DIG later proceded to the palace of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe where he was prayed for by the Monarch while the Ewi-in -council presented gift to him as a sign of honour.
