Democracy Day: Ekiti Youths Parliament Preaches Unity

The Speaker, Ekiti State Youth Parliament, Mr Toba Fatunla has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day.

In his message, Mr Fatunla said the day called for celebration among Nigerians who had witness more than two decades of uninterrupted democratic government.

“June 12 is indeed, a memorable day in the lives of Nigerians. It is the day we reclaim all our civil liberties, a day to sit and assess how we all got here, a day to relax and probe how far we have gone”

“Regardless of the present situation of the economy, we should be thankful for the freedom we have gotten. The essence of a true democratic society is for us to have freedom and the liberty to fundamental human rights” He said.

The Youth Parliament Spearker stressed the need for all the ethnic groups in the country to come together and harmonize their voices to put a stop to violence, insecurity, and other clogs in the wheel of national development.

“Government at all levels must be sincere and ready to dialogue to find a common ground and reasons for coexistence”.

He called on government at federal, state and local level to work hard to overcome the shortcomings of democratic rule so that the labour of past heroes like Chief M. K. O. Abiola, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe and Ahmadu Bello would not be in vain.

Mr Fatunla reiterated the need for government to allow for fundamental human rights as enshrined in the constitution noting that such would propel the country to a greater height.
