Court Slams Fine on Violator of Environmental Law

A magistrate court sitting in Ado Ekiti has fined one Mayowa of Ogbon omo zone 2 off sije road omisanjana Area for various offences concomitant to violations of sanitation rules.

Two witnesses had earlier told the court that the defendant truly allowed feceas, urine and noise from his pig pen to disturb his neighbours.

In his rulings, Magistrate Bunmi Bamidele said the defendant who did not call any witness violated the state environmental law of number 21 of 2021 and ordered that the pig pen be removed immediately from residential area.

Commenting on the development, the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and natural resources, Mr Tunde Alokan said government would not relent at ensuring compliance with environmental laws adding that people with similar case should report such at the ministry.
