The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has admonished corps members to exemplify high level of discipline, maturity, commitment and patriotism so as pursue the mission of nation-building which they have been committed.
The governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Barr. Bamidele Arowosola stated this at NYSC orientation Camp in Ise-Orun/Emure Orientation camp while delivering address during the Closing Ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream one corps members in the state.
Speaking at the event, he reiterated the major objectives of the NYSC Scheme which according to him is “to raise the moral tone of the Nigerian youths by giving them the opportunity to learn about higher ideals of national achievements, social and cultural improvement, removing prejudices, eliminating ignorance and confirming at first hand; the many similarities among Nigerians of all ethnic groups”.
He therefore urged the corps members to develop a sense of corporate existence and imbibe the spirit of positively moulding the destiny of Nigeria.
In addition, the governor encouraged the corps members to maintain zealousness and shun every form of misconduct and negative tendency in their places of primary Assignments and among members of their host communities.
Highlighting the importance of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Governor Oyebanji advised them to participate in the skills training to increase their financial status.
Earlier, the NYSC State coordinator, Alhaji Riko Abdullahi Shuaibu who addressed the corps members at the event urged them to always remember the essence of the NYSC programme, which is to foster unity and integration
He further cautioned corps members to shun unauthorized journeys and unlawful activities capable of tarnishing the image of the scheme.
