Traditional Rulers in Oye Local Government want youths in the council to work together and form a synergy that would spur all round development of the area.
They made the call while speaking at the first anniversary of Oye Local Government Youths Forum held in Ilupeju Ekiti.
Delivering a lecture on the topic “Traditional Rulers and their Roles in Community Development”, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olatunji noted that there was nothing the monarchs could achieve if Youths failed to take up their responsibilities in leadership, politics and other aspects of the society.
Also, the Owatapa of Itapa Ekiti, Oba Makanjuola Ajaja while speaking commended the youths for what they had achieved in the last one year and urged them to take note of politicians who have failed on the promises made to them during campaigns.
“There is a senator representing us in this senatorial district that we have not set our eyes on since he assumed office. I wonder those he’s representing there in Abuja. He has not done anything for us in this Local Government”.
“Now another election is coming on the way. Our youth must be resolute, this time around they must examine anyone they want to vote” Oba Makanjuola said.
On his part, the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Awoyelu expressed happiness over the oneness of Youths in the council and urged them to continue to foster the growth of their communities.
“I am very happy that this is happening in Ilupeju today. What this youths are doing pleases me so much and God will continue to uphold them” the monarch concluded.
Earlier in a goodwill message, the Onisan of Isan Ekiti Oba Gabriel Adejuwon who is also the Chairman Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers called on the youths to be productive as they remained the vanguard to a better society.
While speaking, the President of Oye Local Government Youths Forum, Mr Femi Fagbemi who explained that the forum was set up to foster unity called on youths to be prepared to vote out non performing political office holders in the coming elections.
Mr Fagbemi berated the performances of some of the individuals representing the area saying they have failed to justify the confidence reposed in them by electorates.
Highlights of the first anniversary include fundraising, cultural dance and entrepreneurship training for youths in the council.
