Ekiti state government is to sustain its various awareness programmes for women and girl child across the 16 councils on issues that can encourage gender-based violence in the society.
Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti
While receving the President of Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof Ekanem Braide and Ekiti GBV management committee after a two day assessment of GBV projects and facilities across the State.
The Governor said the awareness would further facilitate the report, documentation, investigation and prosecution of more rape and other gender-based violence cases in the State.
He maintained that such efforts would not only ensure that perpetrators were brought to book irrespective of their status but would also dissuade others who had intentions of perpetrating such heinous act against women and girl child.
Governor Fayemi promised more political will and entrenchment of strong legal frameworks, that would guarantee justice and supports to victims of Gender base violence in the state.
He appreciated the Nigerian Academic of Sciences for their supports in the area of research and knowledge sharing in tackling gender based violence and called for partnership with the institution to be able to make more progresses in dealing with gender based issues.
Also the wife of the Governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi who is the chairman of Ekiti GBV management committee said the Govs forum had provided strong political will and supports for GBV management through its declaration of State of Emergency on gender based violence in the country.
Earlier, the President of NAS, Professor Ekanem Braide acknowledged ekiti govt strive against violence against women and stressed the need for other states to always respond actively to gender based violence.
