Always Give Back to Your Alma-Mater, Gov Fayemi Charges Old Students’

Alumnus of secondary schools in Ekiti State have been called upon to always show genuine commitment to the infrastructure and educational development of thier alma-mater to ensure growth and development .

Governor Kayode Fayemi stated this at Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti while inagurating the renovated Archive/Museum building by the Class of 1967/71/73 set in commemoration of their 50th year graduation from the School.

The Governor noted that for education sector to regain its standard the old students must contribute their quota through financial, moral and necessary instructional materials.

He observed that govt policy of returning schools to their original owners has started yielding desired result by way of healthy competition among old students to make impact in their schools.

Dr Fayemi also charged both old and current students of the school not to disconnected from the tradition that binds them together which had made Christ School a citadel of learning for ages.

Governor Fayemi who commended the set for fixing a project that binds students together gave an assurance of his administration support to ensure completion.

“And now that we have returned the school back to its original owner, the way old students are really competing healthily to pull back to the school is something I find most remarkable and my set is also involved in the competition as we have tarred the two roads in the boys and girls sections and I think the set after us did the old sick bay and now you are doing this. If we all pull back little by little, we would not only rekindle what this place used to be, we would have a brand new school we would be proud to send our children back to.

“One thing binds us, it is the tradition that this school has, that is all we all are inbuild with, the tradition of excellence, tradition of God-fearing and the tradition of discipline in everything that we did while we were here and that is why you have not forgotten your connection to Christ School.

“So, what you are doing is worthy of emulation, I am sure other sets will hear about it and they would find a way to put back to the school. I mean we must consider the current principal of the school to be particularly lucky to be experiencing this rebirth, this renewal of Christ School as it used to be.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Planning Committee, Dr Charles Akinola noted that the building was the heartbeat of Christ School as the archive was modelled in an effort to preserve, re-enact and showcase the rich history of the school.

Dr Akinola announced that the set would kick start the second phase of the project which would include equipping the archive with materials, construction of the quadrangle complex including the adjoining classrooms.

He called on all alumni to continue to support the school to enable it to achieve all its lofty ideas in conducive and technologically friendly environment.

Also the President of the set Pastor Dada Ayodele said the legacy of the christ school must be protected and called on alumnus to give back to thier alma mater.
