The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association has called for improved funding of Polytechnics in the country in order to function optimally.
This formed part of the issues raised in a communique issued at the end of the Council Meeting of the Executives held at the Alumni Secretariat, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti.
The Council meeting of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association involved the National Executives and that of the various chapters of the Association, with the Chairman, Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and the Rector, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, the National President of the Association, Surveyor Oyedokun Abiodun called on the federal government to vote more funds to Polytechnics, create polytechnic commission, full implementation of the removal of HND/BSC dichotomy and upgrading of Polytechnics to degree awarding institutions.
According to Surveyor Abiodun, if these were addressed, it will check infrastructural deficit and make Polytechnic education attractive to students.
He said the Alumni would install CCTV cameras in various locations on the campus, adding that an endowment fund would be put up during the coming Convocation to help students.
In his remarks, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Adó-Èkìtì, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye urged executive members of various alumni associations to be prudent in running the affairs of their associations.
Dr. Oladebeye who is also the Pioneer President of the Alumni Association, commended the present Executives of the Federal Polytechnic Adó-Èkìtì Alumni Association, for their contributions towards the growth of the Institution, calling on them not to rest on their oars.
On his part, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo advised various chapters of the Polytechnic Alumni to be committed to the course of developing their Alma Mater.
Akogun Oyedepo also advocated the establishment and inauguration of more chapters to bring more progress to the citadel of technological knowledge.
The Alumni Association passed vote of confidence on the Rector of the institution, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye.
At the meeting, Certificates of Inauguration were presented to the existing chapters of the Association, which include Rivers, Oyo, Delta, Lagos, Abuja and Èkìtì States.
The Council members of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Alumni Association had earlier visited the satellite campus of the institution where the the Sub-Dean, Continuing Education Centre, Dr Isaac Ajao took the Alumni on the tour of some facilities such as the health Centre, ICT room and Generator Room.
