Tragedy struck today along Ilumoba, Aisegba Ekiti road as a Coaster bus and eighteen seater Passengers bus engaged in headon collision claimed eighteen lives and left several people injured.
The accident which occurred in the early hours of today left the Coast and eighteen seaters bus right -off.
Registration numbers of the two buses are BDG 47 YA Lagos and ABC 83 SH Abuja
Passasersby who know little about the accident claimed that the eighteen seaters bus was coming from Ilumoba to Aisegba Ekiti, while the Coastal bus was coming from Aisegba Ekiti to Ilumoba Ekiti and both of them met besides Dangote Truck packed along the road, while they claimed that the Coastal bus tried to avoid the eighteen seaters bus but all efforts failed.
The ugly event led Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Mobayo, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other Accident and Emergency Agencies to visit the scene of the accident in Ilumoma-Ekiti having paid a smpathy visit to survivors who were currently in coma and critical conditions at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, while bodies of those died at the spot of the accident had been deposited in the hospital’s murge.
Speaking after the visit, Governor Kayode Fayemi Represented by the Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi who could not hid his feelings, urged road users to always be painstaking while driving on the highways.
