Ekiti State Governor Mr Biodun Oyebanji has called on Nigerians not to abandon the personnel of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in their efforts to stabilize the nation.
The Governor made the call in Ado Ekiti during the grand finale of the 2023 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day held at EKiti parapo pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
He hailed the sacrifices of gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price while defending the country and stressed that the task of keeping it united was a collective responsibility.
According to him, citizens of the country must be committed to paying their own prices in whatever capacity they could, to keep Nigeria secured.
Mr. Oyebanji promised government’s priority to the welfare of security men who were still in active service and that of the families of the fallen heros.
Earlier, EKiti State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Retired Colonel Abdulrasaq Atoki appealed to the federal and state governments to show more commitment to the well being of the legionaries.
Also, Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Brigadier General Zeberu, the EKiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Morenikeji Adesina said that the attention given to the security sector by the state government had enhanced their efforts to make the state safe.
The programme featured military parade, laying of wreaths, a minute silence in honour of the fallen heroes, firing of volley and gun salute as well as release of pigeons as a mark of honour to the departed souls.
