The National health insurance Authority NHIA says it has introduced a new scheme which will allow vulnerable Nigerians both in urban and rural area to be enroll under the government universal health coverage.
The new initiative which will commenced next year as vulnerable group fund would cater for about millions of Nigerians in the informal sector.
The EKITI State Coordinator of N.H.I.A Mr Babajide Daramola made this known in Ado Ekiti at a sensitization for health care providers, health management officer, and enrollees.
Mr Daramola stressed that the idea was in line with the new NHIA act to improve and increase accessibility to health care services for nigerians who have not been enrolled in the scheme.
Mr Daramola told the participants that the new act has made it compulsory and mandatory for all Nigerians to be insured under the new insurance Authority.
He urged the Health care facilitators and management officer to educate poor and vulnerables on the need for them to participate to address thier health challenges
.
Mr Daramola therefore called on the media to assist the agency in the reportage of its activities to enable the people to be aware of various programmes under the the new NHIA act.
Some of the participants at the programme lauded the federal government and urged the NHIA not to politicize the new initiative in the overall interest of the people.
