As part of moves to sensitise the people of Ekiti state ahead of the 2023 population census, the National Population Commission has embarked on a road walk.

The road walk which started at the NPC Office, Afao road, took management, staff of the commission in company of other sister agencies to Oke-Ila, Okeyinmi, Okesa and Fajuyi areas of the state capital, while distributing flyers to people about the Census.

Speaking after the road show, the Federal Commissioner representing Ekiti state at NPC, Mr Ayodeji Ajayi said the walk was one of the preparations to ensure that members of the public were duly carried along in the activities of the commission.

Mr. Ajayi explained that the walk was organised in partnership with other agencies like NOA in complementing efforts of NPC in achieving success in the conduct of the census.

He pointed out that the walk would be replicated at the local government level so that the people at the local areas would be sensitized in preparation for the census.

“I want to reiterate that getting the 2023 population and housing census right is a task that must be done and the Commission is committed to ensuring that everything about the census is done rightly and professionally”.

The NPC Federal Commissioner however urged residents of Ekiti state to take active part in the 2023 population and housing census in view of its importance to government and the private sector in the area of policy for formulation and implementation.

“Census is a national event and is the responsibility of every citizen to participate, by presenting themselves to o be counted. The Commission will no doubt need the support of all stakeholders to deliver to the country credible and reliable data it can use for sustainable development planning”.

In a remark, the state Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mrs Olawumi Famuyiwa noted that it was part of the mandates of the agency to sensitise the people on government programmes, such as the census.

Mrs. Famuyiwa also promised to join hands with NPC to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise.
