Wife of Ekiti State Governor Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has promised never to relent in championing all programmes relating to women empowerment and girl child development.
Dr Oyebanji announced this in Ado Ekiti while playing host to non governmental organizations in charge of women development.
She noted that war against harmful practices that were inimical to girl child’s development such as female Genital mutilation has not ended in the state with functional laws in place.
“Building a woman, you are building a nation, that means girl child education needed to be advanced so as to ensure a future that will guarantee meaningful life style for our young girls” the Governor’s wife said.
Earlier, the Director of one of the organisations, Mrs Tumininu Adedeji berated the spate of female Genital mutilation in the state and called for more mechanisms that would put a stop to it.
Mrs Adedeji observed that more efforts needed to be done to ensure safety of girl child in schools while cancelling units of every educational facility must do the needful to guide and mentor young girls.
“With the support of the Government we can end Female Genital mutilation in the state and other factors militating against women emancipation.
Also a representative of another non Governmental organization, Mrs Ayomide Jayeola advocated inclusion of more women in political space.
