BURGLARY, STEALING, MAN TO SERVE 21 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced one Jimoh Dele a.k.a Dele Petim to 21 years imprisonment on four count charge bordering on felony, breaking and stealing.

According to the charge, the convict was on 11th day of May, 2020 around Mobil filling station, Water works, Ajilosun Area of Ado Ekiti broke into a building and commit felony, as well broke into a shop belonging to Adeleye Oluwayemisi and carted away goods worth over N234,000 Contrary to sections 413 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012

In her statement to the Police, the complainant said, my shop has been burgled twice, one in May,2020 and the second time in June,2021, during which my foodstuffs and soup ingredients such as Rice, Semovita, Wheat, Tomato paste, among others were stolen.

In his testimony before the court a Police officer, Sergeant Oladele Ayodeji said the defendant on 19th November 2021 was arrested in connection with cases of kidnapping, murder, unlawful possession of firearm, burglary and stealing, he said, during interrogation, the defendant confessed to have involved and participated in criminal activities

To proof his case, the prosecutor, Kunle Adeyemo called two witnesses and tendered statements of the complainant and the defendant as exhibits while the defendant spoke through his counsel, Tope Salami and called no witness.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Olalekan Olatawura said, in conclusion, the lone issue formulated for determination is partly resolved in favor of the prosecution and consequent thereupon, and on the strength of his confessional statement of the defendant, I find him guilty as charged in counts 1 and 2 of the information.

He therefore sentenced to fourteen years imprisonment for count one and seven years imprisonment in count 2.

The sentences are to run concurrently, the judge ruled.
