Ekiti Governor’s wife again declares zero tolerance for Gender Based Violence …Establishes University center for Gender Development.

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi says establishment of Centre for Gender and Development Studies at Ekiti State University is targeted at providing opportunity to have adequate knowledge of their legitimate rights in the society.

The Governor’s wife make this known while unveiling ICT E-Library room at the Center for Gender and Development Studies as well as commissioning of the University Gender Based Violence Policy in Ado Ekiti.

Erelu Fayemi reiterated government zero tolerance for Gender Based Violence in the state and called on people to embrace all mechanism put in place by the government to curb the menace in the state.

She noted how important it was, to create avenue for learning on GBV in tertiary institutions discribing institutions as places where such occurrences are experienced on daily bases.

In his address the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Edward Olanipekun noted that Erelu Fayemi development and awareness of women emancipation in Ekiti State during the first tenure and the concluding second term in office of the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi can not be over-emphasized.

“The establishment of Centre for Gender and Development Studies in our University is the brain work of your Excellency”, he said.

Professor Olanipekun eulogies the contributions of the First Lady to various developmental feats achieved in the University over the years.

“Your Excellency recently facilitated donation from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to our Gender Center, more than one hundred units of laptops to enhance activities at the centre and the University at large “, he stressed.

While appreciating the Governor’s Wife for all the impactful, life changing and life transformation programmes she has ushered into the University, the Vice Chancellor assured that the University authorities and the leadership of EKSU Gender Centre will not be wary in putting in there best to compliment her efforts in the fight against gender based and domestic violence.

Earlier, the Acting Director, EKSU Centre for Gender and Development Studies, Prof. Mrs F.M Osalusi reiterated the importance of the Executive Professional Postgraduate (PGD) and Masters degree programmes offered at the center as those which would help to develop skills and enhance individual status on their job.

According to her, the programme is not affected in any way by the on going Nationwide ASUU strike, noting that the pioneer students’ results are now ready for approval of the University.

The Director therefore called on the First Lady to facilitate the timely release of the 2nd batch of Candidates of State Ministries and Parastatals to the University in continuity of the programmes.

At the event, Award of excellence was presented to the Governor’s wife for her immense contributions to the development of the institution.
