The Public Complaints Commission, PCC has waded into the issue of unpaid compensation to the owners of houses demolished by Ekiti State government at Ijoka community, beside Oja Oba in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner in charge of the Commission in Ekiti State, Mr. Kayode Bamisile led some staff and management of the commission to the bus terminal construction site where the community members held a peaceful protest.
Addressing the protesters, Mr. Bamisile assured them that the commission would help in facilitating quick payment of the compensation.
He noted that it was part of the duties of the commission to intervene on issues of public interest to ensure fair treatment of the citizens, especially the less privileged.
After leaving the venue of the protest, Mr. Bamisile visited the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands and Urban Development, Mrs. Funke Falodun to ascertain the efforts being put in place by government to pay the compensation.
While speaking, Mrs. Falodun explained that the money had been approved since last year December, saying paucity of fund was hindering government from paying.
She however appealed to them to be patient, as efforts were on to make the payment.
Earlier during the protest, members of the community carried placards with inscriptions such as “Give us our right” “Pay Ijoka Community as you paid airport land matters” “We need our right” “Fulfil your promise Governor Fayemi” among others.
Speaking on behalf of the Ijoka Community, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Ogunsakin Afolabi demanded the payment of their compensation without further delay.
They also called on the state government to give them another land on which they can set up a new Ijoka community.
