Governorship election: Stay off Ekiti.. . police tell political thugs

The Ekiti state police command has advised political thugs to stay off the state ahead of the June 18 Governorship election in the state.

The commissioner of Police, Mr Moronkeji Adesina gave the advice in Ado Ekiti at a stakeholders meeting organized by INEC.

Mr Adesina warned that anybody caught distrupting the existing peace in Ekiti would be dealt with accordingly.

The CP who was representing by one of the senior officers, Mr Olu-Victor Babayemi told the gathering that armed policemen would not be deployed at polling units to avert danger.

He however explained that more officers would be on ground at the polling units to ensure orderliness while the armed officers would be a few meters to the polling units so as to response in case of any violence.

Mr Adesina used the forum to warn those allegedly being recruited by politicians to impersonate the police to have a rethink.

In his remarks, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Tella said the electoral body would continue to carry along all stakeholders in its activities.

Leaders of political parties at the meeting called on the police to arrest anybody found sharing money at the polling units to buy the conscience of voters.

According to INEC, sixteen political parties will participate in the Governorship election in Ekiti State.
