The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Federal University Oye Ekiti has given scholarship award to eleven indigent but brilliant students in various departments in FUOYE.
The students are Adeleye Oyidamola Microbiology, Sam Bibo, Mass Communication, Ayeoyenikan Gbenga, Agric Engineering, Obadina Tolulope, Mechanic Engineering, Oluwatoyi Ezekiel, Gbangbala Alao, Elect/Elect, Adejumo Oluwapelumi, Ogundare Emanuel, Crops Science, James Olaoluwa, Geology and Orji Maryana Sociology.
Performing the ceremony in Oye Ekiti, the FUOYE’s ASUU Chairman Dr Gabriel Omonijo said that the scholarship was born out of interest to support some of the indigent but brilliant students in order to sustain their current academic performances.
Represented by Dr Ojo Fagbunagun, Dr Omonijo who listed some of the criterion used to select the students to include GPA from 3.5 and above, class attendance, interview, maintained that the scholarship award would be a bye annual event.
” Out of thirty students applied, two females qualified and nine males, while those who were not qualified couple still try to meet the criterion in the next two years”.
“Students who had GPA from 3.5 and above qualified to apply for the scheme and ASUU would not compromise on the standard”
while speaking on the wrong perception of some people on ASSU, Dr Omonijo observed that eighty five percent of ASUU strike was aimed to ensure academic excellence, conducive environment for students especially those in science academic and to produce problem solving graduates in the society.
“When people heard anything about ASUU, what comes to their minds is strike, but we are people of impeccable character who always fight to meaningful development in the society especially in Universities”
“TETFUND, Students Union Government, and many other things which Universities are now enjoying today were parts of the proceeds from ASUU struggle”
In a remark, the FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina who was Represented by Mr Ohaga Vistalis and Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Malomo charged students to desist from acts that could rob them off their future dream.
In their responses, some of the Students who are currently in three to five hundred levels include Adeleye Oyidamola, Sam Bibo, Ayeoyenikan Gbenga, Obadina Tolulope and Orji Maryana appreciated ASUU for deeming it fit to support them in realizing their future dream and promised to always live to expectations.
“Infact we are very happy because, this would go a long way to assist our parents and we pray God to always give guide the leadership of ASUU and protect their families.
