World Communications day; Engage in investigative Journalism, Bishop Ajakaye tells Journalists

Media Professionals have been charged to use their profession to promote positive news and information.

The Bishop, Ekiti Catholic Diocese, Most Reverend Felix Ajakaye gave the charge in a sermon in commemoration of the fifty fifth world communications day held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral Old garage, Ado-Ekiti.

He said some journalists were in the habit of projecting negative news to the public.

Most Reverend Ajakaye urged them to practice journalism of transparency and credibility.

“Avoid carrying sensational stories, avoid arm chair journalism because it portends negativity”.

The Catholic Bishop also told the media practitioners to always consider the future of the profession by involving in developmental journalism which could promote societal growth.

“Journalists need to do more on investigative journalism in order to correct the societal ills”

He pointed out that God did not create earth with evil, but the evils happening in the world, especially Nigeria was as a result of wickedness of human beings.

Most Reverend Ajakaye explained that the Catholic Church celebrates world communications day because communication started in the Church when God created the world.

Speaking on national issue the Bishop urged President Muhammadu Buhari to be proactive in addressing the problems facing the country, stressing the need for him to address the Nation in this regard.

In a remark, the Ekiti state Head of Service, Mrs. Peju Babafemi congratulated Journalists in the state for witnessing another of celebration.

Mrs. Babafemi called on religious leaders to always pray for journalists in view of the dangers associated with their jobs.

The fifty fifth world communications day thanksgiving mass was attended by heads of media professionals including the Acting General Manager of Progress FM Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Bayo Babalola, the General Manager of Broadcasting Service of Ekiti state, Mr. Olu Popoola, Secretary, NUJ Ekiti state council, Mr. Kayode Babatuyi and RATTAWU Chairman, Ekiti state chapter, Mr. Taiwo Falae, among other members of the pen profession.
