Nigerian government has extended the ongoing National Identification Number NIN and Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) registration exercise till June 30.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami announced this in a statement jointly signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde and Head of Corporate Communications at the National Identity Management Commission NIMC, Kayode Adegoke.
It was gathered that fifty four million Nigerians have obtained their NIN so far.
The statement read in part: “The postponement of the deadline was also based on the request by stakeholders for an extension till 30th of June in order to make it easier for all Nigerians and legal residents to continue registration.
“The Federal Government has approved the extension as part of it’s effort to make it easier for citizens and residents to obtain the NIN and it is important to take advantage of the extension”.
Pantami reiterated government’s commitment to ease the pains of Nigerians regarding to issues of NIN and SIM registration, as telecoms open more centers across the country.
This is the fifth time the government will extend the NIN-SIM linkage exercise.
