The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi on Friday paid a sympathy visit to the people of Ilupeju Ekiti in Oye Local Government where rainstorm wreaked havoc.
Otunba Egbeyemi who visited the town to assess the level of damage done by the natural disaster also commiserated with them over the death of a native as a result of the disaster.
The Deputy Governor described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the state government was more concerned with the plight of the people which prompted the visit.
On his part, the General Manager, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr Jide Borode said the agency had been collating evidences from victims for possible assistance.
Many of the residents who are still in shock on the impact of the rainstorm, called on the state government to assist them to rebuild their damaged structures, saying that life had been difficult since the incident occurred.
Also, a youth leader in the town, Mr. Sesan Oniyelu, expressed sadness over the havoc wreaked by the rainstorm, urging government to urgently assist them
The rainstorm which occurred on Tuesday claimed one life with ten others hospitalised and affected many buildings including private residences, churches, schools and business centres in the community.
Most of the affected buildings had their roofs blown off with few others had their walls completely collapsed.
The situation had rendered many of the victims homeless as they now living with their friends and relations.
Some of the areas affected by the disaster are Ewo, Igesun, Odogba, Iremo, Ilugbo, Isasa, Ilidan, Ila and Ilese.
