Military Make Plan to Site Communication Satellite Centre in Ekiti

The Nigeria Military has concluded plans to establish Defense Space Communication Satellite Centre in Ekiti state in its drive to strengthen security architecture and further protect lives and property..

Chief of Defence Space Administration (DSA), Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda made this known in Ado Ekiti while briefing Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi on the projects

Rear Admiral kayoda stressed that the projects would generate employment for about 300 indigenes of the state adding that topography of ekiti was pivotal in the choice for siting such project in the state.

Rear Admiral Kayoda explained that the space administration dept was mandated by the military hierarchy to drive its operations and other security agencies as well as protect the Nigeria cyber space through the Cyber security Centre

He said the dedicated satellite military base would control all armed forces satellite and allow for more military presence in the state.

In a response Governor Kayode Fayemi said the proposed Space Communications Satellite Centre would boost knowledge transfer, job creation, and industrialisation in Ekiti State.

Governor Fayemi said govt was committed to working with the defense space administration to strengthen indigenous military Research and Development activities for the overall development of Ekiti State.

The Governor noted that his administration had been working on the establishment of the Knowledge Zone where about 1500 Hectares of land was already procured and hoped that the satellite centre would take advantage of the zone for its operations.

He also added that his administration was almost finalizing arrangement with the office of the National Security Adviser and the Office of the Chief of Air Staff to secure end-users certificate for Orbital Drones procured to strengthen security architecture of the state.
