Governor Kayode Fayemi has apologized to the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC over an attack on a corps member in OMUO Ekiti during the last Saturday’s bye election into the Ekiti East constituency one.
The Governor tendered the apology in Ado Ekiti while receiving the National Governing board of the NYSC led by its chairperson, Ambassador Fatima Ballah.
Dr Fayemi told the visitors that he had visited the corps member at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Ido Ekiti where he was receiving treatment, hoping the he would soon be discharged.
He reassured the NYSC governing board of the safety of corps members deployed to the state so as to serve the people better.
The Governor pledged that his administration would continue to provide support that would strengthen the capacity of the scheme in rendering valuable service to the people.
Describing the NYSC scheme as critical to the future of the nation, Dr Fayemi said he had used his position as chairman, Nigeria Governor’s forum to invite the Director General of the Scheme to the Forum to discuss a number of issues relating to the challenges of the institution in each State.
Dr Fayemi promised that he would not allow any corps member to be subjected to unpalatable situation across Ekiti.
Earlier, the NYSC Governing Board Chairperson, Ambassador Fatima ballah said she was in Ekiti to inspect the facilities at the orientation camp.
She later presented to the governor some of the challenges facing the scheme in the state especially hostel and office accommodations and upgrading of the isolation centre in the camp.
Also, NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Chikezie Nenna thanked the governor for the support she had received since her resumption in office in Ekiti nine months ago.
