The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Fasina says measures have been put in place to check unholy alliance among Students and Staff who engage in cybercrimes.
He stated this at the maiden press conference held at the university Senate Chamber organised by the management to unveil plans, Programmes and policies of the new Vice Chancellor.
Professor Fasina explained that any staff caught engaging in unwholesome acts would be dealt with accordingly in line with the stipulated rules and laws guiding the university.
According to Professor Fasina “I have called some of those alleged to have been engaging in unholy alliance with Yahoo boys and girls in the university, but they denied such relationship and I told them they are under watch”
“You see all staff needed to be careful, anyone caught doing or engaging in action that will mar the image of the university will be dealt with” The VC said.
“We have our plans own to check immoral acts and as a matter of fact, I cannot condone it, We are going to tackle it spiritually”
Professor Fasina emphasized that the priority of the team of Leaders was to ensure academic excellence, meaningful growth, staff welfare, infrastructural development, conducive academic environment, security of lives and property in the two campuses of the institution.
He said this would engender meaningful growth, rapid development, academic excellence and place the University on the world map in terms of moral values for academic.
Professor Fasina pointed out that the vision of the school was to engage regional and global resources for entrepreneurial, educational and best practices in mining and farming technology, while the Mission was aimed at advancing the community of learning by engaging in scientific research, scholarship, multidisciplinary research, entrepreneurship and technological integration.
The FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor said the university authorities under his leadership would not compromise, but always build on the set goals and objectives to achieve quality education.
While speaking on research department, Professor Fasina explained that training and retraining of Staff would be prioritized for optimal performances, saying more Staff would be sponsored to acquire additional knowledge in line with current modern techniques to widen their careers, adding that fellowship mentorship would be given to those willing to win grants for the University’s development.
“Fuoye is very rich in terms of resource persons, we have Lecturers who have won several awards, grants, cash prizes and so on and I don’t think they will allow others to beat them”
He urged Lecturers and students to be more focused in order to attract grants for the University.
On the establishment of Faculty of Medicine, the FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor said that radiology, anatomy, functional laboratories with other Science courses and Pharmacy were already in place, it would not be difficult for the University to start Medicine whenever it is approved by the National Universities Commission and other relevant bodies.
While speaking on how to ensure quick accreditation of the School of Medicine when established, Professor Fasina explained that Oye Community had donated one hundred hectares of land for the establishment of Teaching Hospital and well-meaning individuals like Yemkem and other relevant Agencies had promised to assist, as he appealed to stakeholders, Ekiti Indigenes both home and abroad to join hands in achieving the giant stride for the growth of the institution.
“Anyone who can donate a building, lecture hall, auditorium, more laboratories will be appreciated by naming such after them like we have in so many universities in Nigeria”.
We want wealthy Ekiti Indigenes to support the university in terms of scholarship awards to indigent and brilliant students, we need more hostels, boreholes and facilities in the university, we don’t want our students to suffer at all”
Other plans listed to ensure smooth academicscalendar and to dissuade students attention on fomenting trouble across campuses in FUOYE include award night, scholarship to brilliant students with GPA from four points, a day Vice Chancellor, regular meeting with students Union Leaders among others.
Professor Fasina said that hence forth, any student caught dressing half naked would be sent home, even right from the school gate, students needed to embrace attitudinal
change.
The FUOYE’s Vice Chancellor urged all and sundry in the university to embrace peace and always be on the same page of ensuring meaningful development and academic excellence which were primary objectives of the present institution’s management.
