The Ekiti state honourable commissioner of Education, Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye has warned teachers in the state from exploiting their student through organizing extra school lessons.
She said this while reacting on an edition of Awe Mo ri o, an accountability program on Radio Nigeria Progress fm sponsored by Wadata Media and advocacy centre with support from MacArthur Foundation.
Dr Aderiye explained that education was free in Ekiti State and extra school lesson should not be encouraged to exploit students.
Parents had accused teachers of abandoning the proper teaching of students till extra school lesson period, a develop which the commissioner claimed was wrong and not acceptable by the state government.
Some parents who phoned-in on the program alleged that some schools in Ekiti were fond of always collecting money for extra school lesson.
Another parent also alleged teachers in some schools of exploiting students by making extra school lessons compulsory.
The Honourable commissioner of Education has now directed parents to write petition against any school or teacher mandating their wards to pay for any extra lesson in schools.
“Government is not in support” Aderiye said.
